How a folding case is built

About this print

Tartan is defined by its sett — the repeating count of threads. Cutting it on the bias is what tailors do to stop a check fighting a seam, and it does the same job here: the diagonal ignores the fold instead of arguing with it.

Drawn for the iPhone Duo and laid out per half, so the hinge is part of the composition rather than something the pattern has to survive.
