Can I choose my own letter?
Not yet. Personalisation is a different product with a proofing step, a different print pipeline and no right of return on a personalised good, and it is not something to launch halfway. The monograms here are drawn designs, not a letter picker.
Does the fold cut through the monogram print?
No. Every mark in this family sits on one half. Repeat and Cipher tile across both because they are patterns; the single-letter prints are positioned clear of the fold.
Which monogram survives a phone grip or a ring holder?
Repeat and Cipher, because they are all-over patterns with no single point of interest to cover. A grip in the centre of the back takes out most of a single-letter design regardless of how it is positioned.
Is Bookplate a real bookplate?
It is drawn from a nineteenth-century ex libris — a ruled border, a small engraved device at the top, and a blank plate where the owner wrote their name. The plate is left empty.
Monogram cases for the iPhone Duo
A monogram case has one job and most of them get the position wrong. The letter goes in the middle, because the middle is where a designer puts things — and the middle of the back of a phone is exactly where a palm sits. So the mark is covered for most of the time anybody could see it.
Initial sets the letter at about a third of the height and drops it toward the base, below the hand. Bookplate uses a ruled border that survives being partly covered. The position is not a style decision, it is the only decision that matters in this family.
Drawn, not typeset
Signature was written with a real nib and scanned. The pressure changes through the stroke and the join between the two letters is uneven, because a signature that is perfectly even is a logo. Stamped was pressed onto paper with rubber and ink, so the ink is heavier on one side and the edge is broken where the rubber lifted.
None of that was cleaned up. It is the only thing separating a monogram from a font, and it is the reason these do not look like something generated at checkout.
The blind emboss
Embossed carries no ink at all. The mark is described entirely by a highlight and a shadow, the way a blind emboss works on a business card — the letter is the same colour as the ground and only the light tells you it is there.
It disappears in flat overhead light and appears when the phone is tilted, which is most of the time a phone is being used. If you want a monogram that nobody across a table can read, this is it.
